Hill Farms development could be among city’s priciest

Smith Gilbane, the developer currently building the new state office building west of Hilldale Shopping Center, is beginning to formalize plans for the rest of the site. As visualized, it could be the city’s priciest project yet.

According to a story in the Wisconsin State Journal, when the new state office building is completed in 2018 and the current Hill Farms state office building is razed, private development on the site could include a hotel, housing and office, medical, restaurant, and retail space that could cost hundreds of millions of dollars in public and private investment.

Preliminary concepts from Smith Gilbane include a hotel tower, as many as 350 housing units, 225,000 square feet of office space, just over 152,000 square feet of medical space, 128 square feet of retail, and nearly 27,000 square feet of restaurant space.

The developer could be ready to present a formal application and development plan to the city later this year.
