Hardware store ditches True Value name

A hardware store has existed on the corner of South Park Street and West Olin Avenue in Madison since 1945. Now, Quality True Value Hardware, owned by the Novotny family since 1971 at 1201 S. Park St., has shortened its name, according to a story in the Wisconsin State Journal.

Acon, a private-equity firm, acquired True Value earlier this year, prompting the Novotny family to change affiliations. The store will continue under its new name, Quality Hardware, and with a new primary vendor, Orgill.

Sadly, Scott Novotny, who purchased the store in 2006 from his parents, passed away last year, but his wife and children continue running the store.
