Green Bay Press Gazette: Kewaunee nuclear plant to close next year
Shutdown of the Kewaunee Power Station nuclear plant will begin in six months, a spokesman for the owner said Monday.
Dominion Resources Inc. announced earlier today that the plant would be closed after it could not find a buyer. It held a press briefing late Monday morning about the closure.
The cost electricity was a factor in the decision to close the plant, which employs 650 people. The site eventually will be returned to a greenfield, although that is expected to take decades.
Kewaunee County officials say the planned closure will have an economic impact that ripples beyond the county.
