GE’s Canadian plan to cost 350 Waukesha jobs

With the announcement that GE plans to build a “Brilliant Factory” in Canada that will boast manufacturing capacity for multiple business lines, including its Power & Water, Oil & Gas, and Transportation groups, comes news that the new facility would mean the company will halt manufacturing of its orange gas engines in Waukesha.

According to the Milwaukee Business Journal, GE informed its Waukesha employees along with more than 400 of its U.S. suppliers of its intentions. In Wisconsin, suppliers generate close to $47 million in revenue from the Waukesha plant.

The new plant will add 350 manufacturing jobs during its first phase, the same number of employees currently working at GE’s Waukesha manufacturing facility.
