Former Rodeway Inn could be converted to office space
A shuttered motel on the city’s southeast side may soon find life again, according to a report in the Wisconsin State Journal. McFarland-based Facility Gateway Corp. (FGC) purchased the site of the former Rodeway Inn at 4916 and 4930 E. Broadway last summer for $1.6 million. If it can get some financial support from the city of Madison, FGC would like to move to the blighted location near the Beltline.
With 50 employees, FGC services data centers and installs and maintains their equipment. The company would reportedly spend about $4 million redeveloping the property and is asking Madison for a $225,000 TIF loan that would likely be repaid in eight years.
The proposal now moves through several required committees on its way to the City Council. FGC’s representatives would like to begin remodeling this summer and move into the new space in early 2014.
