Former owner of mortgage firm receives probation in fraud case

Becky S. Stoltenberg, former owner of J.S. Mortgage Corp. in Madison, was sentenced to a year of probation and has paid back the $335,400 she acquired through fraud in 2006. Stoltenberg reportedly submitted false documentation on a borrower to a lender to help the unqualified borrower purchase a $1.2 million town of Westport home. She received the false information from accountant P. Edwin Gray of Oregon, whose license had lapsed. For his part in the scheme, Gray was sentenced to three years’ probation last October.
