Flex lane begins Wednesday
The U.S. 12/18 Beltline “flex lane” between Whitney Way and the I-39/90 interchange in Madison is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 13, according to a statement from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT). The new, flexible-use traffic lane will use the inside median shoulder lane as an additional travel lane during peak traffic periods, typically during morning and afternoon rush hours. Signs located above the left side shoulder lane will indicate when the shoulder lane is available for use. When a red “X” is displayed above the lane, the median shoulder should be used for emergency stopping only. The DOT has created a narrated video explaining how to drive in the flex lane.
