Fitchburg IMAX to reopen, back under AMC name

The 18-screen New Vision Theatres Fitchburg 18 + IMAX, at 6091 McKee Road, will reopen next month as AMC Fitchburg 18, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The movie theater complex has been closed since last spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will reopen under its previous owner. In 2017, AMC sold the Fitchburg theater to New Vision Theatres due to antitrust concerns regarding AMC’s acquisition of the Carmike Cinemas chain, including the Sundance theater in the Hilldale shopping center. Since New Visions Theatres was forced to liquidate, a court allowed AMC Theatres to reacquire most of the theaters it had to divest after the Carmike merger.
