Fitchburg fire station work to begin
Fitchburg hopes to begin construction on one of two planned fire stations by July.
The 20,000-square-foot west side station will be located at 2931 Marketplace Drive and is projected to cost between $5.8 and $5.9 million, plus an additional $1.5 million for land acquisition and design costs. The west station will be built first to ensure that EMS service will be available during southward construction related to Verona Road. Construction should take about nine months.
A start date for the larger east Fitchburg station has not yet been announced. That building will also include new administrative offices and will likely be located near the South Syene and West Clayton roads intersection. Fitchburg has put $12.5 million into its capital plan for both projects, but that amount could increase.
