Fitchburg cancels rideshare contract

A pilot rideshare program that the city of Fitchburg instituted just over a year ago has ended due to low ridership and complicated logistics, according to a Verona Press story.

The program was an attempt by Fitchburg to address transportation inequities, but its projection of 7,000 riders in the program’s first year was overstated as only 1,300 rides were given.

At the request of Richwood Transport, the company that operated the program, the City Council agreed to end the program on March 9, but will continue refining and pursuing the idea.
