Festival Foods Verona store opens Oct. 11

Festival Foods will officially open its new Verona location tomorrow in the latest economic development addition to a growing community that is the home of Dane County’s second-largest employer, Epic.

Last month, Festival Foods interviewed job candidates at the Hyatt Place hotel in Verona, another recent development spawned by the presence of Epic, its 9,600 employees, and its annual user group gatherings. While the Verona Festival Foods employs more than 200 people, at that time the company still had more than 100 job openings in departments throughout the store.

In addition to grocery, the 67,000-square-foot store will feature the following departments: deli, bakery, meat, frozen food/dairy, produce, and wine and spirits.

Located on Verona’s east side, the new Festival Foods store also illustrates growing grocery competition in suburban markets, notes an article in the Wisconsin State Journal. That competition not only affects the likes of Hy-Vee and Woodman’s, but also longstanding grocery operations such as Miller & Sons Supermarket, a Main Street business that has operated in Verona’s downtown for more than 100 years.
