Feds give Bioenergy Center $25 million in annual funding

The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center at UW-Madison has received a commitment of $25 million per year for another five years from the U.S. Department of Energy.

The GLBRC, which includes a major partnership with Michigan State University, supports nearly 400 researchers, students, and staff who are working to create advanced biofuels.

The GLBRC is the only university-based Dept. of Energy Bioenergy Research Center. As it enters its second funding cycle, the center’s goal is to support the sustainable production of crops containing desirable biofuel traits and the efficient conversion of biomass into fuels and chemicals.
