Fastest growing job in Wisconsin is in health care
Using 2020 data released in March 2021 by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the news and entertainment website Stacker compiled a list of the fastest-growing jobs in each state, and psychiatric technicians topped the list in Wisconsin. The five-year growth rate for the entry-level position is 143.2%, with employees in the position growing from 1,480 in 2014 to 3,600 in 2019. The median annual income is $36,690. Working in psychiatric hospitals, mental health facilities, or long-term care homes, psychiatric technicians help patients with basic functions like showering, dressing, and eating, as well as engaging with them in recreational activities, observing physical and mental behaviors, and intervening in times of crisis. Education requirements vary by state, and Wisconsin requires a certification for the position, rather than a degree.
