Exploring nature
Nature Net, a local environmental nonprofit with ties to various environmental education sites, partnered with students from Jefferson Middle School for the first time this year to create new boxes to house Nature Passports. Students created the boxes over their spring semester at school, and they were then installed at several sites this summer. The Nature Passport program is an educational nature “scavenger hunt” and journal for children and parents, allowing them to explore Nature Net sites at their leisure and, using their senses, record observations in their own Nature Passport. The theme for this year’s passport is “#NatureHappens — all year long!” with a focus on adaptations and changes that happen throughout the seasons. Families can pick up a passport from any of the Nature Netsites. For information on getting your event featured in the IB Gallery, email jason@ibmadison.com.)
