Eaton Corp. secures DOE grant to develop natural gas refueling systems

Eaton Corp., which has office and lab operations in the Milwaukee County Research Park, has secured a $3.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to study the development of natural gas-powered vehicles, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The power management company, which makes home-charging stations for electric vehicles, will attempt to develop a new home refueling system for vehicles powered by natural gas.

The DOE grant is part of $30 million being awarded nationwide for research and development into lighter-weight natural gas tanks for cars and trucks.

A moderation in price and expanded availability have elevated natural gas as an alternative to conventional gasoline for passenger vehicles.
