East Washington music venue hits snag

City planners have rejected plans by Stone House Development to construct a music venue on the 1000 block of East Washington Avenue, saying the project, in its current form, wouldn’t meet conditional use standards in the neighborhood. The project proposal also called for a six-story office building and a couple of four-story apartment buildings along East Mifflin Street. Steven Cover, city planning chief, liked the affordable housing, day care, and commercial space proposed in the project, but he said the size of the music venue, which would have held between 2,000 and 2,500 people, and the parking required for such a space would have been an issue.
