Dog days of summer bring recognition

From the pages of In Business magazine.

Since we are officially into the “dog days of summer,” this is a great opportunity to touch on a couple of random subjects that our readers will find important, so here goes:

Executive Register: On page 33 of this issue, you’ll find the 2019 installment of the Executive Register. This is a list of the very TOP executives in Dane County, along with a handful of “Publisher’s Picks.” To be eligible for inclusion in the Executive Register, you must:

  • Work in Dane County (at least the majority of your work week) for a company/organization that has a local presence;
  • Be THE top local executive at your company or organization;
  • Have an executive-level title (owner, president, CEO, executive director, etc.);
  • Lead a company/organization with at least 3 FTE employees in your local office (including yourself).

This year’s ER includes more than 1,200 names, and while it is a thorough list of many of the top local execs, we’re sure there are still some notable names that are missing. So, please peruse this listing and if you feel you should be considered for our 2020 ER, go to and fill out the quick online form. This will allow us to get your current information into our database and will tag you as someone to consider for next year’s list.

Dane County Small Business Awards: We are quickly approaching our event date for the 37th annual Dane County Small Business Awards. This is one of the longest-running award ceremonies in this region, and a great opportunity for us to come together and celebrate what is the lifeblood of this local economy — small businesses! We hope you had the chance to read about the six award-winning companies in last month’s edition because we will honor them at the awards ceremony on Tuesday, July 16 at the Overture Center.

If not, you can get the list of the winning companies and all of the event registration information at The ticket price is $40 but for anyone reading this column, we offer a 20 percent discount. While registering, click “Enter Promo Code” and type in the code LeadingOff, which will apply the discount as you are checking out. We hope that you will come and celebrate and network as we shine the spotlight on some of Dane County’s small business success stories!
