DNA sequencing company opens Madison manufacturing facility

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Illumina Inc., a San Diego company that is the market leader in DNA sequencing technologies, opened a 13,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Madison June 11.

The facility is an expansion that brings the total amount of space Illumina has at University Research Park to 40,000 square feet. A spokesperson said the facility will employ more than 80 people when it reaches full capacity.

The facility will house a fermentation suite and specialized processing labs to produce specialty enzymes used in DNA sequencing and related technologies for life sciences research, the company said.
