DMI opposes current bus rapid transit proposal
In a written statement, Downtown Madison Inc. outlined its opposition to the proposed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes downtown and the placement of stations on State Street and the Capitol Square. DMI expressed support for BRT and for sharing the goal of building a vibrant, economically strong downtown with Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. DMI says it reached its position through its ongoing conversations with the community, residents, small business owners, property owners, Madison’s Central Business Improvement District, the city of Madison, alders, and other stakeholders. The group insists on inclusive conversations to find a mutually agreed-upon compromise for alternative station locations that will best serve BRT riders and will not disrupt businesses.
