Development grants support Monona, Middleton

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. (WEDC) has granted two Community Development Investment Grants to the cities of Monona and Middleton.

In Monona, the $250,000 grant will help with the first phase of construction at Yahara Commons along the Yahara River. When completed, the new development will provide 233 new apartments, 30,000 square feet of commercial space, and a new 92-room hotel.

Middleton will use the $250,000 grant for the construction of a lift-and-slide parking system that physically lifts cars and parks at least five in a space that otherwise would fit three. The parking structure will support downtown Middleton’s $41 million, three-phase Old Middleton Centre project that will include 220 apartment units, 35,200 square feet of commercial space, and 24,000 square feet of office space, according to a WEDC release.
