Dane County begins airport noise study

A 30-year-old plan for limited noise pollution around Dane County Regional Airport and the Air National Guard facility on the city’s north side will soon be updated, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. Dane County contractors will spend the next two years evaluating noise levels in neighborhoods around the Dane County Regional Airport and Truax Field based on current and forecast air traffic levels, including the new fleets of F-35s scheduled to begin flying in Madison next year. The results from the study will help determine eligibility for federally funded noise-mitigation efforts for residents.

According to the timeline for the study, new noise maps should be available for public comment in the fall of 2022, before being submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration. A noise-compatibility plan should be available for public comment in late 2023.
