Dane County bans indoor gatherings, limits outdoor to 10 people
With positive COVID-19 tests rising and record hospitalizations and deaths occurring each day, Public Health Madison & Dane County has issued a new order banning indoor gatherings of any size and limiting outdoor gatherings to 10 people, with physical distancing. The order applies to people who do not live together and goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18.
The order will be in effect until Dec. 16 at 12:01 a.m., so it will impact the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Under the order, face coverings will be required and the capacity for most businesses will be limited to 50%.
In addition, the following events will be considered mass gatherings: in-person games, sports, competitions, group exercise classes, meetings, trainings, movies, events, and conferences.
“This virus does not spread on its own,” notes Public Health Director Janel Heinrich. “We spread it. Every gathering — no matter the size — is an opportunity for disease spread and prolongs the pandemic.”
