Dane Co. leaders consider Enbridge options

Dane County leaders will likely consider their options for getting around a law included in the most recent state budget that blocks a local requirement that the Enbridge Energy pipeline company purchase oil spill insurance.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, the Madison chapter of environmental group 350.org has lobbied the county zoning committee to establish a requirement that Enbridge establish a $25 million trust fund to cover cleanup costs if a spill occurs.

The state budget provision forbids insurance requirements but makes no mention of trust funds, said a 350.org spokesperson.
