CUNA Mutual members on strike today
More than 400 of Madison’s CUNA Mutual workers are forming picket lines today following over a year of failed negotiations between union members and management over health insurance, outsourcing, and pension, the Capital Times reports. The strike is the first in the union’s 80-year history.
According to the CMG United Twitter account, the strike was set to start at 7 a.m.
Around 450 of CUNA Mutual’s 1,750 Madison employees are unionized with OPEIU Local 39. In April, a group vote saw 92% in favor of authorizing a strike. A union announcement earlier this week maintained that if mediated negotiations did not yield sufficient progress, the strike would proceed today.
