Cress Funeral Service sold to Canadian firm

Cress Funeral Service Inc. has been acquired by Park Lawn Corp. out of Canada, according to a company release. The purchase price is reportedly $20.3 million, and closing remains subject to regulatory approval, which is expected in the second quarter of 2019.

Park Lawn Corp. operates in five Canadian provinces and 12 U.S. states and provides goods and services associated with the disposition and memorialization of human remains. The addition of Cress Funeral Service, which has been owned and operated by Bill Cress and his family, expands Park Lawn's Wisconsin footprint by adding eight funeral homes and two crematoria to its portfolio.

The acquisition of Cress leaves just two multi-location, family owned funeral operations in Dane County: Gunderson Funeral & Cremation Care, founded in 1922, and Ryan Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, established in 1938.
