Couple launches dog daycare, restaurant

Jennifer StCyr and her husband John Pickle III have operated the Pickle Jar barbecue food cart in Madison for several years. Now, they’re opening completely separate businesses.

StCyr’s love for their own dogs prompted her to open Dog Dog on Oct. 1, a daycare facility for dogs in the Northgate Shopping Center at 1201 N. Sherman Ave.

Dog Dog will separate dogs by size (S, M, L) and has a capacity of 60 dogs, according to a release. It is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays but will not provide overnight boarding. StCyr has bigger plans, too, hinting of a dog bakery and pet-lovers retail space.

Her husband, meanwhile, will soon be expanding into a brick-and-mortar version of the Pickle Jar BBQ restaurant, at 141 S. Butler St. just off the Capitol Square. The name and menu may change slightly, but the fan favorites like whiskey chili and Bama brisket won’t. The target date for opening is Nov. 1.
