City wants to expand bar limitations, close Visions

The city of Madison and the Madison Police Department are hoping to expand the number of downtown bars that prohibit people from entering after 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

Seven popular campus-area bars have been required to do so as of last year, resulting in fewer instances of violence and crime, usually from “non-college people.”

Nine more establishments, including the Kollege Klub and Red Rock Saloon, may be subject to the provisions as of July 1 when their licenses renew, according to a Wisconsin State Journal story.

The city’s only strip club, Visions Night Club, may close soon, as well, after its longtime owner, Tom Reichenberger, died in mid-March.

City officials say it’s not clear who is running the business now at 3554 E. Washington Ave., although the club remains open.

The city’s Alcohol License Review Committee is looking to revoke or not renew Visions’ liquor license.
