City to receive $6.4 million for Metro facility

The city of Madison will receive $6.4 million in federal grant funds to help pay for improvements to the Metro Transit’s maintenance facility, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The funds will be used to help Metro Transit finish improvements to the 300,000-square-foot facility ahead of schedule and in time to support the bus rapid transit system that the city plans to begin in 2023. The current maintenance building was completed in the early 1980s and requires major upgrades and support systems for electric buses.
