City of Madison eyes purchase of former Cub Foods property
The city of Madison has signed a letter of intent with SuperValu Stores to purchase the former Cub Foods property on Nakoosa Trail, as well as properties at 4134, 4118, and 4150 Commercial Avenue. The 15.4-acre site is considered blighted and includes the former 76,715-sq.-ft. Cub Foods building. The city would like to transform the site into a storage facility that could host city fleet services, fire maintenance, the city radio shop, and vehicle maintenance; offer storage; and house some Metro Transit operations. But the $2.5 million purchase would also remove the property, assessed at $3.48 million, from tax rolls. The city believes that by consolidating several locations, it could recoup some of the lost tax base by selling current facility sites.
