City Council approves controversial Monroe Street development
A contentious plan for a mixed-use development on Monroe Street will move forward after the Madison City Council passed a motion to approve a modified permit. Neighbors had hoped an earlier Plan Commission approval of a conditional use permit would be either deferred or stopped altogether by a supermajority vote of the council. The modified permit will require developer Rouse Management to install a pedestrian island out front, reduce a “bump-out” of the building toward Knickerbocker Street, and pay a deposit for traffic calming measures.
