City considers fire station lease in exchange for employees
The city of Madison may lease the town of Madison’s fire station rent-free in exchange for hiring five town employees when the city absorbs most of the town on Oct. 31, 2022, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The city will use the Fish Hatchery Road station for up to two years to continue fire and EMS services while the city renovates and expands the fire station on West Badger Road. The five town employees would be hired by the city in comparable positions. The city is absorbing most of the town of Madison next year while the remainder, including the town hall and fire station, would go to Fitchburg at that time. The renovation of Fire Station No. 6, at 825 W. Badger Road, includes enlarging the building to 13,250 square feet, improving interior spaces, expanding community offerings, and improving the station’s appearance and function.
