Citing fraud, Hy-Vee suspends employee discount policy

Hy-Vee has suspended its employee discount program following reports of an increase in the number of people misusing it, according to a report from WMTV NBC-15.

The program, which had been in place since 2019, allowed employees and one member of their household to use a 10% discount at the grocery store. However, over the last several months, Hy-Vee noted a “significant uptick” in people abusing the discount. Users who don’t live in the same household or city as the employee were apparently taking advantage of the discount, and other “fraudulent practices and loopholes” were also occurring in the program.

The company is currently updating the program and hopes to have a new one in place by mid-April.

Hy-Vee has nine stores in Wisconsin, including two in Madison, as well as stores in Fitchburg, Oregon, and Janesville.
