Build Like a Girl
On Friday, Aug. 10, Miron Construction welcomed more than a dozen female Wisconsin students to its Madison office for Build Like a Girl. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women make up less than 2% of the construction industry nationally. Build Like a Girl showcases opportunities for women in the construction industry and combats both the severe lack of women in the field and the skills gap affecting the industry as a whole. This was the first time Miron hosted the event in Madison. The free event was open to seventh to 10th grade girls interested in learning about careers in construction. Participant activities included a panel discussion with women in the industry, a tour of the University of Wisconsin–Madison Nicholas Recreation Center project construction site, and discussions surrounding topics such as typical wages in the industry, apprenticeship opportunities, and safety. During the program Miron’s skilled tradespeople also walked participants through multiple hands-on stations. For information on getting your event featured in the IB Gallery, email
