Boost your career with these IB programs

From the pages of In Business magazine.

In the wake of another successful IB Expo & Conference, as we watch the days of 2014 grow increasingly shorter, it’s time for us at IB to turn our attention to 2015. And I’m guessing most of you have already done the same.

It just so happens that two of our biggest awards/recognition programs take place in the first few months of 2015, and I want to use this space to remind you that the application deadlines for these two great opportunities are looming.

In February, we will hold our second annual Executive of the Year awards, which will recognize area executives based on their leadership, innovation, and company success in 2014. This program was a smashing success in its inaugural year and will once again honor executives in multiple categories, including Small Company, Medium Company, Large Company, Young Executive of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, and Executive of the Year. For details on this program or to nominate an executive, go to The Nov. 14 nomination deadline is fast approaching.

On Feb. 11, we’ll honor our top executives at an awards ceremony at the beautiful Capitol Theater at the Overture Center. I encourage you to nominate yourself or the top exec at your company today! If you have any questions on the application process, please email Jessica Hamm at

The other big recognition program coming to the pages of In Business early next year is our very popular 40 Under 40 feature. Each year, our 40 Under 40 issue celebrates the success of rising young business stars in the Greater Madison area, and every year we see the quantity and quality of our applicant pool increase. Next March, we’ll unveil our 15th class, but we need to hear from you right away if you want to earn a spot on this highly esteemed list of young professionals. To be considered, you will need to be under the age of 40 on March 1, 2015, and you must work in or around the Greater Madison area.

The application can be found at, and as with the Executive of the Year program, the 40 Under 40 application deadline is also Nov. 14. But here’s one piece of advice before you fill out the application: This is not the time to be humble about your career accomplishments or your aspirations. We have to turn down many deserving applicants each year because our pool of applicants is so strong, so please be very clear and detailed when filling out the survey questions on your application.

In March, we will hold a networking reception (date and location TBD) honoring this year’s class after the issue comes out.

Both of these honors can elevate your career and would look great on your résumé. We can’t guarantee that you’ll be selected, but as the old saying goes, “You can’t win if you don’t play the game!” So hurry up and apply for these programs before the Nov. 14 deadline!
