Black Women’s Wellness Center closer to reality

Lisa Peyton-Caire’s dream for a health and wellness center serving black women in Dane County is moving closer to reality thanks to a $50,000 gift from the Mary Burke Fund for Girls and Women at the Madison Community Foundation. Peyton-Caire is the founder and president of the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness.

In May, the Foundation announced a plan to open a Black Women’s Health and Wellness Center at 6601 Grand Teton Plaza on the city’s west side and launched a $100,000 fundraising effort that has raised more than $70,000 online thus far.

In a Madison365.com story, Burke’s $50,000 gift will support several of the foundation’s core initiatives, with a portion, $20,000, going to programming and operations at the new center.

“I’ve followed Lisa’s work for a long time and seen the impact she and the Foundation’s team have had, with very few resources, on mobilizing women to improve their health and their lives. When we empower women, we build stronger, healthier communities, and this is a commitment I wholeheartedly believe in,” Burke stated in a release.
