Bills affecting health care providers signed into law

The office of Gov. Tony Evers announced the signing of two bills to support state health care providers and patients. The first bill, now 2021 Wisconsin Act 208, continues the Acute Hospital Care at Home program, which was established during the pandemic to allow hospital services to be provided in a home setting if the federal Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) allow a hospital to provide the hospital-associated service. The second bill, now 2021 Wisconsin Act 209, makes an assault or threat to health care providers or staff members and their families a Class H felony, which is punishable by up to six years in state prison, a maximum fine of $10,000, or both imprisonment and a fine.
