Assembly passes Bucks arena funding
In a bipartisan 52–34 vote Tuesday, the state Assembly easily approved public funding for a new Milwaukee Bucks arena. The $250 million package now heads to Gov. Scott Walker, who is expected to sign the bill.
The at times contentious bill would not have passed without the support of Assembly Democrats, following a similar situation that occurred in the state Senate when that body passed the arena-funding bill July 15. Eighty-six of 99 Assembly members were present for the vote.
While both Democrats and Republicans were initially skeptical about using taxpayer dollars to help fund the arena, they indicated this bill was an improvement on Walker’s original proposal that would have used more state funds.
