American Players Theatre receives transformative $10 million gift

American Players Theatre (APT) has received a gift of $10 million from the Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation, the largest gift in the organization’s 41-year history, according to a release from the organization. Plans for the gift include implementing several initiatives to further artistic programming by putting $7 million of the gift into the endowment held with the APT Foundation. Initiatives in the planning stages include increasing the number of actors in the APT company and adding at least four more members to the Core Acting Company; beginning programs that focus on training actors who have a passion for language-based, live theater; and developing a tour of small-cast Shakespeare projects which tour to nontraditional performance spaces throughout the state and region. The remaining $3 million will be used as major capital funding for additional artist housing and renovation to APT’s administrative offices.
