Anti-pipeline resolution gets local support
Local opposition to an expansion of Enbridge Energy pipelines through Minnesota and Wisconsin is building, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The Madison City Council is expected to consider and vote on a resolution in support of stopping the reroute of Line 5 in northern Wisconsin and construction of Enbridge’s $2.9 billion Line 3 replacement in Minnesota. The resolution has 13 sponsors and notes that each pipeline crosses dozens of rivers, streams, and wetlands, and it cites spills in 1991 and 2010 that leaked millions of gallons of oil into water systems. Heidi Wegleitner, a Dane County board member, plans to introduce a similar resolution at the county level.
