Anthem data breach could affect 80 million people

There’s been another hacking event, this time at Anthem, a health insurer based in Indianapolis with a reported 37 million current customers. The data breach affects the personal information of up to 80 million current and former Anthem customers.

The company, formerly known as WellPoint, said Social Security numbers, names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and employment information could have been compromised, but there is no indication that medical records or credit card information were breached. Anthem is working with the FBI to investigate the breach and will offer free credit monitoring.
