American Girl sales fall again

First quarter 2016 sales numbers for Middleton-based American Girl slid again.

The doll and book and accessories company reported $93.3 million in sales, down from $106.1 million, an 11% drop year over year, adjusted for foreign currency. In March, American Girl laid off 19 Middleton staff members.

Its parent company, Mattel, also took a hit in first quarter, reporting a $73 million net loss for the first period.
