Airbnb fuels state tax revenue

Three months after a tax agreement with the state of Wisconsin took effect, Airbnb has remitted $550,000 in tax revenue from 91,000 Airbnb guest arrivals.

Airbnb hosts in that time earned a combined $12.3 million in supplemental income.

Airbnb collects and remits state-assessed taxes on behalf of its Wisconsin hosts, and those include state sales tax, county sales and use taxes, and some local resort exposition taxes. In addition, an agreement penned on May 1 with the city of Madison allows Airbnb to collect and remit the 10% Madison room tax, generating $157,000 in revenue over the first five months.

Statewide, Airbnb reports 3,300 active hosts.
