After center denied, head of UW orthopedics department resigns

Dr. Thomas Zdeblick has resigned as head of the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s orthopedics department after a plan for a new ambulatory surgery center in Madison was denied, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. Dr. Robert Golden, dean of the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, did not approve Zdeblick’s plan that would place 62% of the ownership of the center in himself and other UW doctors. Golden said UW physicians leveraging their university positions for personal gain did not serve the public trust.
