After 40 years, Yue-Wah Oriental Foods will close
Grocery store Yue-Wah Oriental Foods on Madison’s south side will close after 40 years this August, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
The store, which opened in 1983, is a one-stop shop that sells products from throughout eastern and western Asia, parts of Africa, and some Latin countries.
About 1,000 square feet when it first opened, the store has grown to roughly seven times its original size. Store owner Kien Ma, who operates the store with a few employees including his son and sister-in-law, is retiring.
In addition, sourcing inventory — especially amid supply chain issues caused by the pandemic — has been cited as one of the store’s recent challenges.
