Adams Outdoor sues city over obstructed view

Adams Outdoor Advertising, which owns most of the billboards around town, is seeking $740,000 plus legal expenses from the City of Madison because the city’s recently installed Cannonball bike path over the Beltline blocks one of Adams’ billboards from being seen by eastbound commuters. Adams claims the city never consulted with the company when planning the bridge and that workers trespassed on its property during construction. The lost view, the company maintains, devalues the sign and the property it is located on.

At the same time, the city is considering a proposed ordinance from City Council President Chris Schmidt (and supported by Adams Outdoor Advertising) to let companies remove existing signs and relocate them.
