Sports betting leads to RotoWire expansion

Sports betting, which still is not legal in Wisconsin, is slowing moving across the country ever since the U.S. Supreme Court lifted the federal ban in May 2018. Eleven states now allow legal betting on professional sports, and others are awaiting launch dates.

Madison-based RotoWire, founded by Peter Schoenke and two others in 1997, announced plans to launch CoverWire, a free site dedicated to providing sports bettors with information about player injuries or trades that may impact their selections.

Schoenke, a lobbyist in the fantasy sports and gambling industries, anticipates a booming market for legal betting on professional sports such as baseball, basketball, and even golf, but says CoverWire will provide information only and not accept bets, according to a Wisconsin State Journal article.

RotoWire currently hosts thousands of online leagues and has grown into one of the most popular fantasy sports names around the nation.
