ATC to move transformer
American Transmission Co. will move a 138-kilovolt transformer that was damaged in an explosion this summer as it continues to investigate the cause of the blast that left thousands without power on the hottest day of the year.
According to an article in the Wisconsin State Journal, the transformer will undergo a controlled teardown not unlike what happens in a plane crash investigation and then be moved a short distance to a former Madison Gas & Electric coal yard on Livingston Street. The City of Madison says the move will require some street closures on Wednesday, including sections of East Main and Livingston streets.
