United Way creates flood relief fund
To meet the need caused by recent flooding across Dane County, United Way is launching the United Way Flood Relief Fund.
The organization established the fund after its 2-1-1 information and referral service, which is typically used to connect residents to a variety of resources, had seen call volume triple as families affected by the flooding sought support. Fifty-three percent of families reporting damage say their insurance will not cover the cost, while an additional 27 percent are unsure.
United Way says 100 percent of the relief fund will be invested back into the community and that it will not use donations for administrative support. Funds will be used to meet needs unmet by other assistance programs, such as utility payments, prescriptions, medical supplies, and car/home repairs not covered by insurance.
