State Senate supports F-35 at Truax
Adding its voice to the F-35 basing controversy, the Republican-controlled State Senate voted in support of bringing the controversial, next-generation jets to Truax Field in Madison, according to an article in the Wisconsin State Journal.
Most local public bodies have voted to oppose the jets unless neighborhood concerns about noise can be adequately addressed, but in a voice vote the Senate approved a joint resolution to support Madison as a future home of the F-35s.
State senators representing districts in Greater Madison split their votes, as Sens. Jon Erpenbach, D-West Point, and Mark Miller, D-Monona, voted in favor of the resolution, while Sen. Fred Risser, D-Madison, voted against.
Risser and Erpenbach did join forces to submit a failed amendment to the resolution that would have requested the U.S. Air Force to conduct additional review of environmental impacts.
