Over-the-air TV viewers struggling with tower work

A plan to upgrade a “candelabra” TV tower on Madison’s west side has been delayed, leaving some over-the-air television viewers wondering what happened to their local channels.

WISC-TV (Ch. 3), WHA-TV (Ch. 21), WMSN-TV (Ch. 47), and WIFS (Ch. 57) broadcast from the one tower at 453 S. Pleasant View Road. Channel 3 and Channel 47 had to change frequencies, while the others are operating at a lower power level, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.

Satellite and cable TV subscribers are not affected.

The work was scheduled to occur in September, but the crew from Tower Consultants Inc. was delayed, and fall weather has not been conducive to climbing or repairs.

The crews are now working as quickly as they can on the upgrade, which will allow for 4K TV in the future. Barring more inclement weather, the final antenna replacement is scheduled for Dec. 9.

Well, its bad enough to have lost channel 3..... but today
[Dec 2] I see we lost channel 47. I might have to go to Charter for my TV.... The only correct response from you would be... Do it and send me the monthly bill.

Both the Packer and Badger seasons will be completely over by the time this is fixed.....now apparently shooting for January. Terrible.

Kevin Ruppert is now saying completion won't be done until January. This whole project has been handled terribly with apparently no consequences.

January! Like the weather gets better then! haha. How about streaming the Packers so we can still get the games? Next time you have a project get a project manager.

This was no fault of the over the air TV channels. You can blame the FCC for this. A Federal mandate by the Government required OTA TV channels to be either moved on the TV frequency bands to make way for the new 5G phone network. This was poorly thought out by the FCC. There aren't that many tower crews to take on this epic failure by the FCC. This isn't just happening in Wisconsin. It's happening all over the U.S..

Actually you can't blame the FCC for this because the stations were giving years advance notice. The station's weren't required to switch they offered to switch and took a payout to help with the transition. The local stations blew it because no one else had trouble changing frequencies.

Like was said earlier, where is the project manager? If there was/is one, they should be fired! I'm tired of going to my workplace every week to watch the game! Like someone else said the watching of the entire Badger and Packers season is shot!

Complain to the FCC. It is no coincidence that this delay coincides with Morgan Murphy Media (Ch 3 - WISC owners) negotiations to extract higher fees from local cable providers. Overall poor corporate responsibility falls short of reasona ble service quality for the public airwaves.
